I'm teaching a virtual haiku class/workshop this upcoming Sunday, August 17th from 10am to 11:30am (Central Time) called Haiku: Getting to the Heart of Meaning.

If you're interested or know anyone else who would be, please email me at: mary.m.writer@gmail.com, and I will send you the Zoom invite for Sunday. The price for the workshop is $50.

I'll be focusing on two main themes: the use of the five senses in haiku and abstraction as a tool for writing haiku. Though I'm sure I'll be doing plenty of speaking, this won't be lecture-style so much as workshop-style. There will be at least two free write sessions during the class, with the option to share work with the group.

This will be an intermediate haiku class, so I'll be assuming that everyone knows the basics of haiku (that they don’t have to be 5-7-5, that there’s typically a turn/surprise in them, that nature is often referenced, and so on). If you'd like to join, and you're a beginner, send me an email, and I can send you three introductory haiku lessons that would help get you up to speed before the class on Sunday.

Depending on the number of participants, I may extend the class until noon for those who want to continue workshopping haiku.
